My name is Vivien and I’d like to get to know you. I’m pleased as punch that you’ve found my little hiding place! I am new to this profession but already I feel as if I will be working within it, at some capacity for the rest of my life. Before becoming a companion I sought to find work that I felt proud to do, but that also nurtured my whole self. I have been a personal support worker, a filmmaker, and even a cook. All of these fields provided vehicles for passions of mine and yet in each one I still felt as if I had to hold certain parts of myself back. This work allows me to engage with each person I meet as my full unadulterated self which includes everything from a head for history, hearty belly laughs, and a mind forever stuck in the gutter. So far every day is a new challenge but also a delight. Among my friends I am known as the person who can be found in the middle of a room full of strangers ranting and raving as if we’ve known each other all our lives. What is perhaps lesser known is that I feel most at home in a corner cajoling someone to regale me with a story. Nothing is too mundane or trivial as for me what really matters is the teller. I love to see people become totally animated as they weave together the colours, sounds and faces of their everyday lives. Often, without prompting I will find myself privy to some of the most personal aspects of their lives and it often left me wondering why me? I asked a friend for their opinion on the matter and they said plainly "It’s because you make every person you meet feel completely heard and acknowledged as they are." I truly believe that this is one of the most pressing needs we have as human beings but I am also aware it isn’t the only one... Let’s get closer...
